The Moon vs Neptune
Just about every astrologer or astrology enthusiast will tell you that the moon rules Cancer, and Neptune rules Pisces. What if I told you that I personally believe it’s the opposite? That the moon rules Pisces, and Neptune rules Cancer?
Today I’m gonna be explaining this theory of mine and flipping a lot on its head in the process.
The Energy of Pisces
Before any of this can make sense, we have to have a refresher on what the energies we’re dealing with actually are.
Pisces is the 12th sign of the Zodiac. It’s the mutable water sign, and traditional astrologers will tell you that Jupiter rules over it. The general consensus is Neptune, though.
Pisces is known for its sensibility, ethereal qualities, and loose energetic bounds. This loose energy generally makes Pisces a confusing and disorienting sign to most. They can get caught up in daydreams or fantasy, seeming like they have no sense of reality or the ground they stand on to the layman.
Keep that loose energy in mind, we’ll be going over it again later.
The Energy of Cancer
Cancer is the 4th sign of the Zodiac. It’s the cardinal water sign, and literally everyone will tell you that the moon rules it.
That same everyone will also most likely tell you that Cancer energy is easy to trample because they’re so unbelievably sensitive, but this is nowhere near the case.
Cancers are essentially the Capricorns of the water signs, and their energy in general is much more of a blend between Capricorn and Aries. It’s much less likely you’ll ever see a Cancer cry than you might think it is.
Cancers have a constant, sustained level of energy that is almost impossible to burn out. They’re also much more combative than most people make them out to be; they’re not afraid to stand on business, so to speak.
Cancers have profound imaginations and creative power just like Pisces, and arguably a little more than Pisces, but their energy is much more defined and structured in comparison.
My Take on the Moon
I personally believe that the moon deals with our conscious, human emotions. It’s not so much our subconscious like we think it is. It can represent our family, yes, because that’s our human collective in this lifetime.
Having a strong moon in your chart may mean you’re very good at understanding your own feelings, the feelings of your fellow man, and you may be very creatively inclined. You may have a distinctly ethereal energy, and you may also have a healing presence to those around you.
Having a weak moon in your chart could very well mean the opposite. You could feel emotionally stunted, like you have no idea what’s going on in your head, and you might feel weak creatively (unless other placements in your chart contradict this).
My Take on Neptune
Where the moon is our conscious and our human emotions, Neptune deals with our pure subconscious. Our soul-level emotion falls within Neptune’s domain. Thus, Neptune can represent our soul family as well. The people we may not get to meet in this lifetime, but are always with us.
Neptune’s energy is everlasting. The moon waxes and wanes, Neptune is always there, it just seems to be out of reach.
Having a strong Neptune in your chart may make you incredibly spiritually gifted, passionate, and so creative that it may feel like (or actually be) another entity is working through you to create art.
Having a weak Neptune in your chart may make you feel disoriented in life, like nothing speaks to you, etc. You may also have a very weak, or even a lack of connection to the spirit realm. If you do have a connection, there's a possibility you could develop spiritual psychosis, etc (again, unless other factors in the chart disagree).
Neptune & Cancer
These two are extremely similar entities. Cancers are very in tune with the spirit realm, just like their little blue planet. They're everything Neptune is in a sign.
Cancers are the real “out of this world” Zodiac sign, because, at first, they might seem completely normal and grounded in their being.
This is because we wouldn't actually be able to comprehend something that's out of this world. Our heads would explode trying to make sense of it.
So, in response, the incomprehensible disguises itself in order to live life, learn what being in a comprehensible form is like, deliver the messages it can to the rest of us, and then return to wherever it came from.
This is why Cancers are usually so artistically inclined, especially Cancer risings with 5th house placements. Cancer risings have a Scorpio 5th house, so their creativity is already governed by another outer planet, Pluto.
Neptune and Pluto are both very dark, spiritual and soul-level planets, and art is the language of the soul.
Cancers use art to essentially remember where they came from.
The Moon & Pisces
Once again, these two are incredibly similar.
Pisces’ are much more outwardly sensitive than Cancers are, because that's part of what it is to be human.
Cancers feel things so deep down that it's much harder for them to show people that kind of vulnerability. Pisces’ don't necessarily lack depth in their feeling, they just live in a more conscious world so they feel like they have no reason to be quiet about what they feel. It's much more simple to them.
Pisces’ wear their heart on their sleeve, Cancers do not, at least not as easily.
Why Pisces is so Ethereal
The moon is much closer to us than Neptune is, but it still seems far away to us. We can get to it, but it still carries this mystical energy about it.
The moon and Pisces’ energy is comprehensible to us. It's within the realm of our understanding, it just teeters around the edge. This is why Pisces and the moon seem to radiate such an otherworldly energy. It's another world that remains inside of our imagination, whereas Neptune is completely outside of our human minds.
It's very difficult to describe the difference between the otherworldly and the otherworldly, but hopefully you understand the point.
The Gravity of the Situation
Okay, I'm sorry for that heading in advance, but let's talk about why the energy difference between Pisces and Cancer actually makes scientific sense with this planetary rulership.
Pisces, like I told you to keep in mind earlier, has very loose energetic bounds. Almost like they're floating wherever they go, and nothing keeps them attached to the ground.
The moon has a surface gravity of 1.62m/s². To put that very simply, 100lbs on Earth would weigh 16lbs on the moon.
Cancer has a much more defined and structured energy, but it still has the ability to walk among the clouds.
Neptune’s gravity at 1 bar is 11.15m/s². And again, to put that simply, 100lbs on Earth would be roughly 110lbs on Neptune.
So on the moon, you weigh less, and on Neptune, you weigh more.
Using this logic, of course Pisces is gonna feel like it has way less of an energetic boundary compared to Cancer, they literally have no gravity to pull their energy back down to Earth!
Neptune in Pisces
Since Neptune and Saturn are both in Pisces right now, and I just yapped about how that's the moon’s sign, let's talk about what Neptune in Pisces really means before I dip.
Neptune in the moon’s sign is pulling the unbelievable into the believable. It's bringing soul level emotions to our conscious, bringing past lives to our current life, etc.
It may feel much looser, disorienting and even paradoxical while it does so, because we think the unreal can't become real, but this is a period of pure enlightenment.
Neptune, Saturn and Pisces are joining forces to bring past life debts to the forefront of our minds so we can finally pay them in this lifetime and understand where we truly come from.
We may feel stuck in our physical bodies while our minds wander the ether, but when Neptune and Saturn both finally move into Aries, Saturn will take the reigns and we will start defining and putting into action exactly what we're learning now.
Final Thoughts Before I Dip
So, now I've flipped your whole world on its head. Hopefully you got what I was saying and didn't lose your mind 😭
And if you're a Cancer rising or Cancer dominant, maybe look more into your Neptune placement because I know mine makes perfect sense for me.
Pisces risings or Pisces dominants, look into your moon placement, and maybe invest in some concrete to tie to your feet for a little while so you can experience what gravity is like 😵💫
Brightest Blessings,
Sam :)
